Beijing Symphony Orchestra unveils symphonic version of 'Together for a Shared Future'

The official song of the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is gaining popularity as the Games approach. Citizens from all walks of life are learning the promotional dance of the official song while its passion also inspires professional artists working in diverse mediums. Recently, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra released a video featuring the symphonic version of "Together for a Shared Future."
"It is our effort as a municipal-level troupe to respond to the relevant planning and deployment of the Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism," said orchestra Director Meng Haidong.
According to Li Biao, the orchestra's artistic director, it is their responsibility to translate the high expectations and good blessings for the Games through music.
"When we got the task, the leaders of our orchestra decided that all members of the orchestra should appear in the lens as a whole. We shall arrange, direct, sing and perform on our own." The video was filmed at a rehearsal hall in 813 Cultural and Creative Industrial Park, which opened this past summer.
Cui Zhengang, who served as the video's director, is also the flutist of the orchestra. Last year, he participated in the planning and production of many online performances by the Beijing Symphony Orchestra.
"From receiving the task to the final release of the video, we spent only five days, the schedule was quite tight," Cui said.
Jia Puzhen, a logistics staff member for the orchestra, had previously studied composition. "The original song of 'Together for a Shared Future' is a popular song based on electronic sounds and sound effects. The rhythm is powerful and dynamic. When adapting, we need to symphonize parts of the music to fully demonstrate the unique characteristics of each instrument," Jia said.
"Our original intention is to give full play to the characteristics of symphony, join hands with more professional theaters and orchestras, and use their respective advantages to contribute to the upcoming Winter Olympics," Meng said.
The orchestra plans to hold a series of Beijing 2022-inspired concerts to promote the Olympic spirit.
