Inspired by actual events, "Icarus. The Legend of Mietek Kosz" by director Maciej Pieprzyca tells a tragic story of a blind grand piano genius Mieczyslaw "Mietek" Kosz, who suffered a series of difficult circumstances throughout his life. Yet, through his brilliance in music and glories, he still tries to find love and forgiveness despite facing darkness, despair, and solitude.

"It is a heartbreaking but heartwarming film," TV host Chen Luyu said at the premiere on Dec. 9. It is the first-ever Polish-made film to get screening approval in China, excluding the co-productions between filmmakers from Poland and other countries, such as "Loving Vincent" (2017).

The 2019 film was empowered by the robust performance of actor Dawid Ogrodnik and legendary jazz musician Leszek Mozdzer, exploring how a blind man breaks through the limits of his body and social tolerance. The film has won 8 awards in various film festivals in Poland and was in the official selection of the Shanghai International Film Festival last year. Its debut exhibition in Shanghai was quickly sold out. Later in China's Xiamen, Fujian province, Dawid Ogrodnik won the Best International Actor of Golden Rooster Awards 2020.

Recently China has expanded film imports other than Hollywood blockbusters, including recently announced: "Oh! My Gran" (2020), the first South Korean film to grace Chinese screens in six years, ‎"Decision: Liquidation," a 2018 Russian film, and "Chhichhore," a 2019 Indian film.
