Editor's note: The annual Spring Festival Gala, adance drama featuring the "poet god," a concert preluding Chinese Lunar New Year, a Broadway musical comedy, and a much-anticipated blockbuster—here are five events you won't want to miss this week.


1, 2022 CCTV Spring Festival Gala


For several decades, the Spring Festival Gala has been a staple of every Lunar New Year's Eve. This year's program is designed to resonate with audiences emotionally, depicting cultural heritage, themes of the times, and rural revitalization. In addition, the Winter Olympics will feature heavily, with an original song and dance called "China Welcomes You" and New Year greetings from Chinese athletes. Furthermore, the astronauts of China's Shenzhou-13 mission, Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping, and Ye Guangfu, will appear.

2, Dance Drama'Li Bai'

Honored as the "poet god," Chinese poet Li Bai holds an important place in the history of Chinese literature. Several fragments of his life will be acted out in a dance drama to celebrate his patriotism and the favorable and unfavorable turns in his life. Ultimately, the show will reveal his unrestrained and remarkable personality and why his poems are still widely read.

3, Concert Preluding Chinese Lunar New Year


This concert selects classical music suitable for the festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival, but also different styles that are close to the modern human emotions. The famous melodies will include "Jasmine Flower," "In That Distant Place," "The White-Haired Girl," and "The Moon Represents My Heart," to name a few.

4, Chinese version of classic Broadway music comedy 'Happy Kitchen'


Featuring excellent body language and vivid expressions, chefs in this musical comedy will take all "instruments" at hand, such as pots, spoons, and scoops to perform percussion music. A Kungfu stunt and magic show will also be included.


Dates: Feb. 4-18


Venue: Zhengjia Grand Theatre, Guangzhou 


5, Blockbuster 'The Battle at Lake Changjin II'

The much-anticipated sequel to China's highest-grossing film of all time, "The Battle at Lake Changjin," will hit Chinese screens during Spring Festival. The film promises more powerful stories and stronger emotions. Meanwhile, the plot of "The Battle at Lake Changjin II" will pick up where its record-breaking predecessor left off to tell more heroic stories and the final fate of the Chinese soldiers after the epic battle at Lake Changjin.
