In celebrating the World Book Day 2022, a new book entitled "Water-related Journals in China since 1949" was officially released in Beijing by the China Water & Power Press (CWPP), the core member company of the China Water & Power Publishing and Media Group (CWPPMG) .

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, numerous hydraulic engineering projects were planned and implemented all over the country in dealing with many kinds of challenges and difficulties. These projects played very important roles for rapid development of the country's society and economy by continuous efforts in flood control, drought relief, water supply, irrigation development, water power generation and so on.

Meanwhile, water-related journals in China also experienced rapid development in many aspects such as remarkable growth of total number, more subdivision under the subject of water and growing influence in international academic fields.

Though thousands of books about water or water engineering affairs have been published and issued in the past several decades, there is not even one book about China's water-related journals ever appeared in the world.

Now the situation is changed. According to Yang Qinchuan, a senior editor in CWPP, this new book, as the first one that depicts historic stories for China's water-related journals, filled such gap existed in publishing industry for a long time.

The book demonstrated more than 50 impressive stories about the development of water-related journals in China, including each journal's creation, evolution, characteristic columns, outstanding achievements and precious experiences in the past decades. And these journals' important roles in policy advocacy, information exchange, science and technology dissemination, academic progress, innovation promotion and culture transmission, were also indicated individually or as a whole.

In the main text of the book, a lot of pictures, photos and inscriptions are coordinately arranged with the related paragraphs, which brought about good readability, aesthetic experiences and in-depth research clues for readers. At the end of several articles, QR code of the journal's WeChat or website was attached to provide readers with instant and real time connection with the specific journal. By scanning QR code with mobile phone, the reader can directly reach the journal in no time and get extensive reading materials or academic information as intended.

Two appendices of this book are also of great values. One is an academic paper discussed the development of water-related journals in China within one hundred years, from which readers can understand history backgrounds of some specific contemporary water-related journals in China. Another one provided latest and useful information as of the website, email box or telephone number for more than 120 journals one by one, in which people can select a convenient way to set connection with the journal.

Wang Hao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that the book is important not only for water-related journals themselves, but also very important for high quality development for China's water sector and water talents, especially for water science researchers, hydraulic engineers, universities' teachers and students, media workers, history fans and the broad management staff with relation to water.
