The ongoing 32nd Macao Arts Festival is presenting a number of productions in an array of art forms in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Themed "invigorate", the festival, which opened last Friday and ends on June 2, aims to invigorate the power of times through the artistic productions, with a focus on programs from Macao and the mainland.

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR, this year's arts festival kicked off with the opening program "Free Man from the South", a contemporary dance theater production created by Chinese choreographer Willy Tsao.

Inspired from 26 well-known poems of Chinese poet Li Bai from the Tang Dynasty, "Free Man from the South" features 14 dancers who lead the audience to explore the poetic realm and immerse themselves into the poet's beautiful world of mountain, water, flower and moon through poetry, dance and music.

Tin Chengcheng, a Macao resident who watched the show, said the dancers well conveyed the artistic concepts in Li Bai's poems with their fascinating body movements.

"The Phantom of Liaozhai", with a script rewritten by local Cantonese opera veteran Chu Chan Wa based on the Chinese literary classic "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio", was staged on Sunday.

Multiple performances of the technical theater production "Carlos I" will be staged from May 3 to May 11, offering the audience a performance with no actors but only lighting, sound and space installations.

Other programs include "Love Cruise" and interactive family play "Doodle Pop", both of which are scheduled to be held this weekend. In addition, the Macao Orchestra will present a live orchestral performance of the classic film "Der Rosenkavalier" on Saturday.
