The first prize of the evening for the best short film went to "The Water Murmurs" from Chen. The film stars Annabel Yao, youngest daughter of Chinese hi-tech giant Huawei's founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei. The film is her acting debut.

The art-house short, shot in Yibin city, Sichuan province, follows a woman who has to leave her hometown because it will be destroyed due to rising tides caused by a meteorite that hits Earth. Still, she finds it is hard to say goodbye to the beautiful seaside town she grew up in and got used to, and she starts thinking about other alternative possibilities in life.

"I need to thank China, the land of my home country. What I describe and present in the film are the poetic and affectionate feelings I feel when standing on Chinese soil," Chen said at the acceptance moment after she delivered her thanks to her team, company, parents, fellow filmmakers, and fans.

She added, "During my time at Cannes, I felt the sincere support that all the filmmakers have for each other, especially during times like this. I believe in the strength and hope that films could bring to the world."

At the 75th Cannes Film Festival award ceremony, Swedish director Ruben Ostlund's film "Triangle of Sadness" won the Palme d'Or for best film. 21 films were selected to compete for the Palme d'Or this year.

The festival's nine-member jury is headed by French actor Vincent Lindon, winner of the Best Actor Award at the 68th Cannes Film Festival in 2015. They distributed the Grand Prix to two films, "Close" directed by Lukas Dhont and "Stars at Noon" directed by Claire Denis.

The Jury Prize was also jointly awarded to "EO" directed by Jerzy Skolimowski and "Le Otto Montagne," directed by Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix Van Groeningen.
