Renowned Chinese songwriter Qiao Yu died in Beijing on June 19. He was 95.
Born in 1927 in Jining city of East China's Shandong province, Qiao Yu, whose real name was Qiao Qingbao, was a household name in China, thanks to the lyrics of popular songs he wrote, such as My Motherland, Let's Pull on Our Oars, and Unforgettable Night.
His classic songs are still performed today and remain popular, including among young people.
He was also a playwright who wrote scripts for movies, including Liu Sanjie, which he co-wrote with Shi Youping.
He was the head of China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater and the president of Chinese Music Literature Association.
