An exhibition of calligraphy copies of inscriptions collected by the Xi'an Beilin Museum from across the Taiwan Strait opened on June 18 at the Taipei City Archives. 

Yu Qun, vice chairperson of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), Luo Wenli, honorary president of Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Exchange Association, and Chen Chunlin, director of the Han-wei Cultural Association in Taiwan, delivered speeches. Over 70 guests in Taipei attended the event in person.

Yu Qun said in his speech that the exhibition brought a cultural feast to people in Taiwan, adding that the mainland and Taiwan share the same roots in the art of calligraphy. He hoped that through the careful design and organization of the exhibition, the ancient calligraphy culture could be revived in the new era, and the exhibition could serve as a platform for calligraphy buffs on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to jointly promote excellent traditional Chinese culture.

Luo Wenli said that the calligraphy displayed is not only an important carrier of Chinese civilization but also the source of the cohesion of the Chinese nation. He hoped that the exhibition would further promote cross-Strait exchanges in the field of culture and art and attract more people to visit Shaanxi and the Xi'an Beilin Museum and appreciate the profoundness of Chinese civilization as well as the enduring fascination of calligraphy.

Chen Chunlin said the exhibition was held in an innovative way, demonstrating the inheritance and development of Chinese calligraphy. He hoped the audience could appreciate the wonderful works and feel the spirit of the times embodied in them. He said that continuous efforts and recognition of common values across the Strait are vital to promoting cultural exchanges.

The exhibition comprehensively displayed the famous stele inscriptions in the Xi'an Beilin Museum as well as excellent works of calligraphy collected from across the Taiwan Strait. In addition, interactive activities such as calligraphy puzzles were held to better present the exhibition.

The exhibition will open from June 18 to July 3. Then it will be displayed at the Chung Tai World Museum in Nantou, Taiwan, from September to October.

Background information:

The exhibition was co-hosted by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Exchange Association, and the Han-wei Cultural Association in Taiwan, and undertaken by Xi'an Beilin Museum. The call for calligraphy submissions from both sides of the Strait began in July 2021. A total of 121 calligraphy works are on display, including 60 from Taiwan. In April 2022, the calligraphy works were exhibited at the Xi'an Beilin Museum for a month, drawing wide attention and praise.
