An exhibit of photos and cultural relics entitled "Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Madam Soong Ching Ling, and the United States" opened at Wesleyan College in the United States on June 27 ET, with an accompanying VR-based exhibition synchronously launched in Beijing.

The exhibit was sponsored by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and Wesleyan College to mark the 50th anniversary of the issuance of the Joint Communique of the United States of America and the People's Republic of China.

The opening ceremony, attended by around 50 representatives of Wesleyan faculty and students, was presided by President Dr. Vivia Fowler, who is also a member of the CSCLF Council. Hang Yuanxiang, executive vice president of CSCLF, addressed the ceremony virtually.

On behalf of the CSCLF, Hang extended warm greetings to the exhibit and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Fowler and all faculty members for their great efforts to make it happen.

Illustrating Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Madam Soong Ching Ling's deep ties with the United States, this exhibit is a microcosm of the history of China-US exchanges, said Hang. The stories of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Madam Soong Ching Ling, and the United States date back over a century, with history proving that aspiration for friendship between China and the US has long been at the heart of the two peoples. Hang hoped this exhibit would help deepen mutual understanding between the countries, especially their youths, who are expected to further promote China-US friendship in the new era.

He stressed that the CSCLF and Wesleyan College had maintained close ties over the years. Through such exchanges as mutual visits, academic interactions, and themed exhibits, the two institutions have actively promoted people-to-people exchange between the two countries.

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the CSCLF's founding. Hang pledged that the CSCLF would work closely with Wesleyan College in a bid to further people-to-people exchange and make new contributions to enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

In her speech, Dr. Fowler noted that Wesleyan College was honored to join the CSCLF to host the exhibit, which spans an important period of world history, from the early revolutionary activities of Dr. Sun Yat-sen to the life and death of his wife Soong Ching Ling, who carried on his legacy.

She also congratulated the CSCLF on its 40th founding anniversary and thanked the foundation for maintaining warm relations between the two institutions as they carry on the legacy of Madam Soong Ching Ling.

Dr. Fowler announced the exhibit will be open Monday to Thursday through August. A total of 252 photos are displayed under six subjects: Education in the United States, Devoted to the Democratic Revolution, Support from Overseas Chinese and American Friends in Establishing a Republic in China, United to Resist Japanese Aggression, Peace and Friendship, and Carrying Forward Soong Ching Ling's Legacy.

Schedules for offline displays via the three organizers of the exhibit, the Former Residence of Soong Ching Ling, the Honorary President of the People's Republic of China, the Soong Ching Ling Memorial Residence in Shanghai, and the Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen in Guangdong, are yet to be decided due to the ever-changing COVID-19 pandemic situation.
