After being quarantined in Tianjin for a few days for COVID-19 prevention protocol, Koo eventually made it to Beijing on Tuesday evening to attend the IMAX premiere of "Warriors of Future." The film was released in China on non-IMAX formats on Aug. 5 and has grossed more than 250 million yuan at the box office since then. The IMAX version will add new fuel to its momentum in the market and offer an immersive experience.

Developed for ten years, "Warriors of Future" has been hailed as China's first true mecha sci-fi, a sci-fi subgenre that focuses on giant robots, powered armors or machines. The film has excited the Chinese film industry and audiences. Koo describes the film as promoting environmental protection, a manifestation of his dream to create Asian superheroes, and a step in a new direction for Chinese sci-fi.

"The biggest difference between Eastern and Western sci-fi is that we are always united and believe in the team's power for collective victory," he said. He added he wants to be a trailblazer for Chinese sci-fi and is trying his best to build the diversity and possibilities of Chinese sci-fi. He insists whether or not a project makes money is not the priority.

"We need somebody to push forward and help elevate Chinese sci-fi. This time, it is me. I will work hard to do more in the future. I will not let you down and will not let myself down," he added.

The IMAX version of the film will be released nationwide on Aug. 12. Meanwhile, IMAX China is also gearing up for the upcoming Beijing International Film Festival. The festival will feature IMAX versions of all eight installments of the "Harry Potter" series, five documentary shorts, and the Japanese anime classic "Ghost in the Shell."
