In celebration of the "2022 Shanghai Pudong Double Five Shopping Festival," Disney began trial operations on Wednesday of the new online store. The resort's first online shopping destination offers various categories, including plush toys, fashion, accessories, toys, souvenirs, and home decor. A series of select products are available during the trial operations period, including the popular Summer Mickey's Pool Party Collection and the Chip 'n' Dale Car Accessories Collection.

"We continue to leverage new technologies and platforms to further elevate the guest shopping experience. The opening of our new flagship store on Tmall and introduction of additional online and offline shopping experiences will provide guests and fans with even more products and convenient shopping options," said Joe Schott, president, and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. In addition, he thanked Disney's guests and fans for their passion and love for its experiences and products.

Fans have consistently packed the resort's brick-and-mortar stores since they opened in 2016. Whenever a new merchandise product hits the shelves, such as LinaBell plush toys, people form long queues in the early morning to try and buy the product before it sells out. Many people have to hire purchasing agents or place orders at rampant online private stores to buy things for them if they are not in Shanghai - especially since the pandemic hit.

By opening the Tmall store, the resort will regain control of its online business. It is also debuting a technology-based sales program tailored for all visitors to Shanghai Disneyland - the "Special Merchandise Exclusive Draw." The new program is designed to give visitors an equal chance to purchase trendy products on any given day without needing to arrive early. It will also support on-site pandemic prevention and control measures.

According to the announcement, visitors can enjoy an equal opportunity to enter a daily draw to win an in-park purchase voucher for some of the resort's special merchandise collections. Each eligible guest can participate in the draw once per day, with purchase limits applied for each product per guest. The program will begin trial operations on Aug. 15.

In addition, the resort has built a brand new store: The Disney Home Store. The two-story shop officially opened on Aug. 8 in Disneytown and is the first-ever home specialty store at a Disney resort in China. It provides furnishings, tableware, loungewear, apparel, decorative pieces, gifts, plush toys, and more.
