A Chinese exhibition on "Silk and Silk Road" opened in Prague on Friday to promote cultural exchanges between China and the Czech Republic.

The exhibition, hosted by the Chinese embassy in Prague and the China National Silk Museum, features silk-making art and techniques, as well as the Silk Road. Silk fabrics, embroideries and special costumes are on display.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Zhang Maoming, charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the Czech Republic, said silk has been a witness of the friendly exchanges between China and countries in central and eastern Europe.

He said the Czech Republic has a huge collection of Chinese silk products.

With this exhibition, Zhang said he hopes China and the Czech Republic will be able to work together to promote cultural exchanges and cooperation, in an effort to further strengthen their friendship and bilateral relations.

Talking to Xinhua after the opening ceremony, Marian Kovac, president of the Club of Economic Cooperation with China, described the exhibition as "very nice."

"I hope this exhibition will support our relations, mostly in the economic and business areas. The exhibition will also help us in the future, for the business, for the human relations and for friendship between China and the Czech Republic," he said.

The opening ceremony also featured a "qipao" traditional Chinese dress show and other interactive programs such as Chinese calligraphy.

The exhibition will last until Aug. 26.
