The war epic "The Battle at Lake Changjin," anthology film "My Country, My Parents," and drama "Nice View," were big winners, each winning three awards at the 2022 Media Honors Ceremony of the China Movie Channel held in Beijing on Saturday. The ceremony gala is sponsored by the movie channel and Tongzhou district government.

"The Battle at Lake Changjin," co-directed by three legendary Chinese directors Chen Kaige, Tsui Hark, and Dante Lam, won the jury grand prize and two awards for the most popular script (written by Lan Xiaolong and Huang Xin) and best visual effects. "My Country, My Parents" won the most popular film as well as two awards for debut performances: best directorial debut by established actress Zhang Ziyi, who directed and starred in one chapter of the film, and best new actress for Ren Sinuo. "Nice View" won the most popular director award for Wen Muye, the most popular supporting actress for Qi Xi, and the best music score.

All three were mainstream blockbusters, especially "The Battle at Lake Changjin," which earned 5.78 billion yuan, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time in China. Its sequel also grossed 4.07 billion yuan, making the franchise the most successful project ever. Its producer, Jiang Defu, who is also executive president of Bona Film Group, thanked fellow industry workers and the audience, which was composed of 230 million admissions.

Zhang Ziyi's win was also one of the highlights of the night, and an encouraging moment for her. "Life is so meaningful and has many unexpected things," she said in her acceptance speech, "Causing you to change your perspective and go challenge those obstacles you have never encountered before." "Poem" is Zhang's directorial debut and consists of an emotional story about two children's memories of their parents who were part of the DFH-1 satellite program. Zhang was under great pressure and even broke down in tears at one point during the production. However, that effort has now paid off. Even the little girl in Zhang's short film, Ren, became the youngest honoree in the event's history, winning the best new actress award. Zhang said she would continue her movie journey and may direct a feature-length film in the future.

The most popular actor award went to Zhang Songwen ("The Pioneer"), and the most popular actress award was handed to Yuan Quan ("Chinese Doctors"). The most popular supporting actor was awarded to actor Jinpa ("Kong & Jigme") and the best new actor award went to Chen Yongsheng, who starred in Zhang Yimou's "Snipers." The animated film "Boonie Bears: Back to Earth," released earlier this year, won the most popular animated feature, while "Big Country Granary" won the most popular documentary film.

According to the TV channel, the organizing committee of the 2022 China Movie Channel Media Honors asked all reporters and editors in China to select the best films using a professional, objective, and sincere attitude between Aug. 26 and Sept. 1. In the end, more than 12,300 media workers from 1,421 media outlets cast their votes for 15 awards.
