Majestic Theater in Shanghai is celebrating its 81st birthday with a series of local productions in the city.
The first that will be held is The Abyss, an original theater production by the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center. The play, which will run from Oct 12 to 23, was created by renowned theater director He Nian and tells a story with a camera man on the stage shooting closeup videos of the actors' performances. These clips are projected simultaneously on screens strategically placed in the theater.
The Eternal Wave, a dance drama based on the real life story of the Chinese revolutionary martyr Li Bai will be shown at Majestic Theater from Nov 4 to 6.
Blossoms, a play in the Shanghai dialect adapted from the novel of the same title by Jin Yucheng, will be shown at Majestic Theater on New Year's Eve.
For its new performing season, the theater will introduce a series of merchandise related to the ongoing shows, as well as "lucky bags" with bargain tickets.
Majestic Theater is an ornate art deco theater built in 1941 and designed by Chinese architect Fan Wenzhao (1893-1979).
