The war epic "The Battle at Lake Changjin" received the most nominations, a total of eight, including best feature film and best director. The film currentlyholds the title of the biggest grossing Chinese film of all time, raking in nearly 5.78 billion yuan after its debut on Sept. 30, 2021.

Behind "The Battle at Lake Changjin" is this year's tearjerker family drama "Lighting Up the Stars" and last year's phenomenal romantic film "B for Busy," each receiving seven nominations. In addition, 9-year-old child star Yang Enyou received a best actress nod for her performance in "Lighting Up the Stars," making her the youngest in history to receive such a nomination.

"Nice View," a film depicting an entrepreneurial saga set in the city of Shenzhen, received six nominations, and was recently selected as a contender for the best international feature film at the 2023 Oscars.

Two other films to join the best feature film race are Zhang Yimou's "Snipers" and the patriotic anthology film "My Country, My Parents."

Besides the routine awards for feature films, the 35th Golden Rooster Awards will also recognize documentary films, animated features, Chinese opera films, children's films, and foreign films.

According to the China Film Association, films eligible for this year's Golden Roosters were those granted screening permits in China from July 1, 2021, to July 15, 2022. During the process, they have received submissions for 168 films of various genres across various awards, including 51 feature films, 50 small-to-medium-budget feature films, 13 children's films, 15 animated features, 17 documentary or popular science films, 11 opera films, and 11 foreign films. The event will see nominees compete in 20 award categories.

Vying for the best foreign film award are "Ice 2" from Russia, "We Made a Beautiful Bouquet" from Japan, "Otac" from Serbia, "Downton Abbey: A New Era" from the United Kingdom and "The Banker" from the United States. Established last year, the best international film award is a relatively new addition to the Golden Roosters.

This year's China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival will include forums, exhibitions, screenings, and other events, as well as the China Golden Rooster Awards ceremony. The event will take place in Xiamen in China's southeastern Fujian province from Nov. 10 to 12.
