Young filmmakers have impressed the jury panel for the Asian New Talent category of the Golden Goblet Awards at the ongoing 25th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) with their well-acclaimed "mature" works, a media briefing heard on Sunday.

"These 'so-called' new talents are very mature in art, and they pick up quite new themes and subjects, so we've started raising our requirements for the review work," said Jojo Hui, a member of the Asian New Talent jury panel. In the eyes of this award-winning producer from Hong Kong, new talents represent unlimited possibilities, who are ready to express everything through the lens.

Hui is echoed by her fellow judge, Chinese actress Yang Zishan.

"Each of the shortlisted directors is not like a new director. Their shooting method is very mature, and their works are very complete," said Yang, adding that the panel would look for the film that would best touch their hearts despite their varied preferences and perspectives.

The panel also shared their criteria for judging this year's nominated films.

Japanese director Kei Ishikawa said that compared with skills and techniques, he valued "strong emotions" more, which should be held by new filmmakers during the creation process and infused into their works, counting it as the part that he "most looked forward to."

Chinese actor Jackson Yee also cherished emotional expression, saying that he will try to grasp and feel the emotions from the perspective of the audience for each nominated film.

Kyrgyz director Aktan Arym Kubat, President of the Jury of the Asian New Talent competition, said the SIFF plays a significant role in facilitating the development of Asian films and in promoting international cultural exchanges.
