A fish specimen has started to be on display with the label "broken tuna rib" at a biological museum in Chengdu, Southeast China's Sichuan province on Tuesday.

This new display is a consequence of a museum-goers carelessness with the original exhibit, breaking it. It marks the first of this kind in China.

A staff member said that this special exhibit aims to call on tourists to behave civilized while roaming the exhibits, and therefore the museum did not repair the specimen.

Video footage circulating online at the end of August showed a man touching a large fish exhibit, making a twisting motion with his right hand and breaking a long strip-like object on the specimen.

The museum's curator Li Jun said the man involved has been found. He confessed his mistake and wrote an apology letter. Li also mentioned the damaged fish specimen is worth 480,000 yuan ($67,200) and the total cost to repair is estimated to be over 10,000 yuan.
