The 6th China (Xiangtan) Qi Baishi International Culture and Art Festival and the 2nd Xiangtan Tourism Development Convention were held in Xiangtan, Hunan province, from Nov. 4-6.

More than 400 people in the circles of arts, culture and tourism from home and abroad took part in the two events aimed to raise Xiangtan's profile on world stage.

Qi Baishi (1864-1957) is a Chinese painter, who is noted for the whimsical, often playful style of his works. Qi was born to a farmer family in Xiangtan.

The culture and art festival featured an exhibition of Qi's works to mark the 160th anniversary of Qi's birth. The tourism convention consisted of four major promotion activities to introduce Xiangtan's arts, history and culture.

Thanks to Qi's influence in the circle of Chinese painting, 172 works of college students from eight countries, including Italy, Russia and Ukraine, were chosen for a sideline exhibition at the same time, turning the event to be a platform for exchanges among young painters.
