The Baitabei contest, hosted by the government of Beijing's Xicheng district, held an awards ceremony on Nov. 25.

With the aim of boosting cultural innovation and the development of cultural industries through digital technology, the 2023 contest called for entries promoting the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, tea culture, and Xicheng’s historical status as a hub for scholars.

The competition was divided into four sections — cultural merchandise, digital empowerment, textile pattern design, and a section especially for youth.

Since June when submissions were opened, the competition received around 3,800 entries from 2,500 candidates around the country. Among them, 71 were shortlisted for the finals, where they competed for 28 prizes.

During the ceremony, six organizations were announced as new collaborators to facilitate the execution of outstanding projects and promote them on the market.

“While delving into the cultural background of Xicheng district and promoting cultural consumption, this edition of the competition also emphasizes the subsequent application and promotion of outstanding projects, providing a high-quality platform for the growth and incubation of cultural creativity,” said Chen Dapeng, deputy head of Xicheng district.

The ceremony also released an NFT collectible and inaugurated the 2024 edition.
