The musician held a press conference in Beijing for his second album, "Northern Lights," on Dec. 19, where he performed four songs live, delighting fans. The album became digitally available on Dec. 20, and the physical LP will be released on Dec. 29.

Cao explained why he named his new album "Northern Lights," stating that the year 2023 represents a time when many people began new journeys after the end of the pandemic, fulfilling their dreams of traveling the world. The Northern Lights, as one of the most famous natural phenomena in the northern hemisphere, are something that many individuals aspire to see with their own eyes during their lifetime.

"Although I haven't personally witnessed the Northern Lights yet, as someone who loves to travel, I think they are not only one of the most breathtaking natural spectacles on Earth but also symbolize a dream within me that has yet to be realized," Cao said, smiling.

Among the seven songs included in the album, Cao wrote or co-wrote six. He says that the music represents his personal stories during his journey, adding that he also hopes that they resonate with his fans as they set off "on a journey to pursue their own northern lights."

Cao Yang, also known just as Young, is an artist and emerging star under pop superstar Jay Chou's JVR Music label. Chou and Universal Music Group announced a new strategic global partnership in early December, which involves supporting talent on the JVR label, including Cao. At the press conference, Chou and numerous other artists, including Nicholas Tse, Vincent Fang, and Li Ronghao, sent congratulations to Cao via video messages.

"I'm so excited! Their messages are very heartwarming and full of strength. Some of them are my predecessors, idols, and peers. It's an immense honor to receive their blessings." When asked what he would like to say to his boss, Jay Chou, Cao said, "I will work hard and won't let you down!"
