"I Did It My Way," directed by Jason Kwan and starring Lau, Gordon Lam, Eddie Peng, Liu Yase, and Simon Yam, is a quintessential Hong Kong crime film that explores the complexities of high-tech drug trafficking networks.

Lau portrays a cunning, cruel and highly intelligent drug trafficker who masquerades as a benign lawyer. This role marks a departure from his usual penchant for playing positive characters. However, this character also exhibits depth, demonstrated by his tender and profound love for his wife and his caring relationship with his right-hand man and friend. These humanizing traits add layers to his persona, creating a multifaceted character whose reckless actions inevitably lead to his downfall.

The film also highlights the harrowing dangers faced by anti-drug and undercover police officers in their fight against crime. It serves as a heartfelt tribute to the real-life heroes who risk their lives battling drug traffickers and saving lives.

As a guest attending the film's premiere on Dec. 25, Frant Gwo, director of "The Wandering Earth" and Lau's collaborator, expressed his astonishment and excitement at Lau's portrayal of the villain, acknowledging the actor's charisma and ability to excel in diverse roles. Additionally, Wei Junzi, a film historian and expert on Hong Kong cinema, hailed "I Did It My Way" as the epitome of Hong Kong films. He praised its incorporation of classic cop and gangster elements with its exploration of the dark web and complex emotional themes.
