The exhibition, titled "Perseverance for Achievement: Exploring Chinese Historical Context through Ancient Calligraphy and Paintings," is part of the "Compilation of Classics in the Flourishing Age: The Thematic Exhibition of a Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings" series. It is being held at the China Millennium Monument exhibition venue in Beijing and will run from Jan. 22 to May 5.

The exhibition explores the compilation and publication achievements of the "Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings" series, which encompasses 62 volumes and over 230 books. It features selected works from this collection that emphasize reading, focusing on the compilation process. The exhibition invites visitors to experience the comprehensive collection firsthand in the exhibition hall, immersing them in China's rich literary and artistic heritage.

The event is divided into four main sections: "Reading and Appreciating Elegance," "Interests within the Study Room," "Enjoying Classics," and "Examining the Ancient to Inspire the New." The exhibition uses digital, design, and educational methods to explore and celebrate Chinese reading traditions.

The exhibition boasts over 320 items, including high-quality copies of old manuscripts, digital works, publications, and documents. This allows visitors to see how ancient reading styles and environments varied, understand the development of artistic styles, and see how different social classes in ancient times engaged with reading.

Additionally, the paintings about reading preserve valuable insights. They highlight the development of Chinese culture, changes in reading trends, and the design of study spaces from different periods. The exhibition serves as a reflection on China's enduring literary tradition, providing insights into the cultural ideals and spiritual worlds of past generations while also promoting contemporary efforts to enhance nationwide reading and uphold the spirit of Chinese aesthetic education.

Spanning over 18 years in the making, the "Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings" represents a major national cultural project that bridges history and borders. This collection, inheriting a millennium of literary and artistic traditions, revives the allure of ancient brushwork and ink art. It is a significant cultural milestone, embodying unique Chinese characteristics. The achievements of this collection highlight China's traditional culture as a key strength and its most profound form of soft power.

Following the opening ceremony, a special forum was conducted to explore topics like academic research, curatorial practices, and the interdisciplinary impact of the "Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings" project.
