The Shanghai Museum East launched one more permanent exhibition on March 16, featuring ancient Chinese sculptures.

The new branch of the Shanghai Museum had its soft opening on Feb 2, with the introduction of its bronze exhibition, as well as a special display Stars Over China: The Ancient Shu Civilization of Sanxingdui and Jinsha.

The Ancient Chinese Sculptures Exhibition presents 289 objects, covering a wide diversity of media, such as bone, jade, wood, pottery, stone and so on. One-third of them are on public display for the first time.

The new exhibition has seen a major upgrade and expansion over the old location of the Shanghai Museum in People's Square. While the number of objects has almost doubled, the historical narrative has been significantly extended, far back to the Shang (c.16th century-11th century BC) and Zhou (c.11th century-256 BC) dynasties and to the Ming and Qing periods (1368-1911).
