China's box office revenue on Dragon Boat Festival holiday 1st day exceeds 124 mln yuan

China's box office revenue on Saturday, the first day of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, surpassed 124 million yuan (about 17.44 million U.S. dollars), data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed.

Domestic crime comedy "Walk the Line" skyrocketed to the top of the box office chart on the Chinese mainland, generating revenue of over 24.6 million yuan on the day of its premiere, official data revealed.

Revolving around the efforts of front-line police officers engaged in the campaign against organized crime in China, the production highlights the country's unwavering determination and significant achievements in advancing this crackdown.

"Walk the Line" was closely followed by domestic teen comedy "Be My Friend," which raked in box office sales of 24.5 million yuan on the same day.

Another newcomer, "Crisis Negotiators," a drama set in Hong Kong and a remake of the U.S. film "The Negotiator," came in third, earning 17.4 million yuan on Saturday.

According to film data platform Maoyan, the day also witnessed a record-breaking number of screenings -- totaling 468,000.

The three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday started on Saturday, with a diverse offering of movies aimed at generating significant box office sales in China.
