1. An overview

Confucius Institute Scholarship (hereinafter referred as CIS) is set up by the headquarters of Confucius Institute (aka. Hanban), aiming at encouraging international students and Chinese language teachers all over the world to come to study Chinese language and culture in China. The scholarship is comprised of two types—scholarship for advanced training and scholarship for Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages.

Prospective grantees: excellent students in Confucius Institutes around the world, overseas Chinese language teachers or people motivated to engage in Chinese language and culture communication around the world, excellent examinees in Chinese language tests organized by Hanban, top contestants in competitions such as Chinese Bridge for university students, high school students and international students, others who meet special requirement of headquarters of Confucius Institute.

Applicants may present their application materials to the following recommending institutions:

Cultural division of Chinese embassy (consulate) in your country

Confucius institutes

CIS students accepting institutions

Other institutes designated by Headquarters of Confucius Institute (aka. Hanban)

As requested by the Ministry of Education of China and Hanban, BLCU shall conduct strict management over CIS students. Those students who violate laws/regulations or university’s rules/provisions, behave badly, do not attend class as required shall, on Hanban’s request, be cancelled the scholarship or expelled from BLCU depending on the seriousness of the case.

2. Annual Reconfirmation of CIS

In accordance with CGS Reconfirmation Standards and CIS Regulations, International students who enjoy CIS for longer than 1year are subject to annual scholarship reconfirmation. Listed below are the contents to be reconfirmed: attitude, attendance, performance, awards or punishments.

If you pass the reconfirmation, you can continue to enjoy the scholarship for the next academic year; otherwise your scholarship will be suspended for one year or cancelled.
