The 15th Pinggu International Peach Blossom Music Festival will be held in Pinggu District, Beijing Municipality, from April 18 to May 8, according to a press conference held on April 15.

“When this reluctant spring finally came to Beijing, the peach flowers stretched across 220,000 mu (14,666 hectares) in Pinggu, and their blossoms are appreciated around the world,” said Wei Xiaoyu, director of the district’s Publicity Department. Tourists can look forward to a sea of peach blossoms, music, food and a wide array of sport activities during the festival, Wei revealed.

Dubbed the “Music Valley” of China, Pinggu District will host a series of musical activities during the event. Some 100 rock and roll bands from home and abroad will provide outdoor entertainment for music fans every afternoon and evening to celebrate the Beijing Midi Music Festival, which will last from April 29 to May 1, said Zhang Fan, the president of Beijing Midi Music School. In addition, globally renowned violin makers will exchange ideas and techniques as part of the activities for the 2nd China International Violin Making Competition, which lasts from April 9 to September 21, Wei added.

To attract more tourists, Yaji Mountain Daoism Cultural Festival, the 3rd Pinggu Stone Appreciation Festival, a gourmet festival, a photographic competition, a large-scale blind date event and some charity activities will be in full swing in April and May in Pinggu, according to press conference materials. Auditions for a children melodrama named “Peach Flower Princess” will select child performers during the festival, bringing a high-quality drama on stage next month in Beijing, according to Zhao Yongzhuang, the general manager of China Puppet Theater.

Thrifty and low-carbon lifestyles will be promoted throughout the event, Wei emphasized. Organizers have made earnest efforts on the prevention and control of the H7N9 virus and will pay close attention to it, she expressed. “I hope visitors can soak in the fragrance and embrace spring and nature during the 20-day peach florescence in Pinggu,” Wei said as a final note.
