The National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will raise the curtains on its fifth annual May Festival starting from May 1 this year, offering audiences a spectacular feast of chamber music.

The festival, which will run until May 25, will highlight 19 chamber music concerts starring many world-renowned musicians and ensembles.

The line-up includes Gidon Kremer, Rainer Honeck, Gerhard Kaufmann and Alison Balsom. Famous chamber music ensembles, including the Wurttemberg Chamber Orchestra, I Musici, the Salzburger Hofmusic and the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra, will grace the stage, according to the NCPA.

Audiences at the annual Midnight Rose will, as usual, have a wonderful night of jazz music accompanied by gourmet food and wine.

More than 20 well-established musicians and six chamber music ensembles from China will stage nine performances, accounting for nearly half of the total. Some of the Chinese musicians to grace the stage include Lyu Siqing, Qin Liwei, Chen Sa, Sun Yingdi, Huang Mengla and Chu Yi-Bing, according to the NCPA.

The Vienna Cello 5+1 will stage alternative arrangements of classical works such as "Carmen" and "Bolero", while the closing concert by I Musici will bring "The Four Seasons" by Vivaldi, the work which made them a multi-diamond record, and interpretations of the vocal works by Rossini with Chinese operatic soprano Huang Ying, the NCPA said on its official website.

The Major Trio of Lyu Siqing, Qin Liwei and Sun Yingdi will perform the exotic "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires" by Piazzolla.

During the festival, a total of 20 free public performances by these famous musicians and ensembles will be held across various venues in the city, including schools for migrant worker's children, local communities, museums, nursing homes, hospitals and shopping malls.
