Beijing saw an increasing number of taxis in the 1990s. The main taxi models during this period included the yellow mini-buses, Xiali, Fukang, VW Jetta and Hongqi. Fares ranged from 1.0 yuan, 1.2 yuan, 1.4 yuan, 1.6 yuan, 1.8 yuan to 2.0 yuan per kilometer, respectively. The market was somewhat of a great chaos back then, with low fares and low-end vehicles.
