Beijing to host 2014 APEC summit
The 2014 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting will be held in Beijing, capital of China, an official from the host city said on Tuesday.
"The capital city is gearing up preparations for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2014," Zhao Huimin, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Beijing Municipal Government, told a press conference by the Chinese APEC delegation in Bali, Indonesia. Next year's gathering will be held at Yanqi Lake, a picturesque scenic spot about 50 kilometers northeast from downtown Beijing, according to Zhao. Zhao said, "The organizing committee has completed the construction of the official website and design of the official logo." Currently, one international convention center, one boutique hotel and 12 VIP villas are under construction. These facilities will be put into operation by the end of 2013. The official logo consists of 21 colored lines, which not only traces out the outline of the globe, but also the Temple of Heaven (Tiantan), a location for ritual ceremonies in ancient times. The logo is a symbol of partnership and cooperation between APEC member economies. Yanqi Lake is located in Beijing's Huairou District. |
