A series of ice and snow activities intended to boost people's awareness of fitness and to serve as a warm up for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games was held in Beijing on Dec. 28th, according to China News.

Over 300,000 people are expected to participate in 48 ice and snow activities in 16 districts of Beijing during the Lunar New Year celebration, and 20 skiing parks and seven indoor ice rinks will be accessible to the public during that period.

A teenage hockey player made a statement to encourage people to take part in the activities, followed by a speech by Zhang Jiandong, Vice-Mayor of Beijing and Vice President of the 2022 Winter Olympics Bidding Committee.

"We are committed to stimulating people's interest in exercise and creating an enthusiastic atmosphere for the Winter Olympic Games," said Zhang at the Opening Ceremony for the activities.

Remarkable performances given by figure skating fans and professional hockey players brought the house down, and 2,022 people from every walk of life had wonderful experiences skating at the event. Videos recording the bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games were played on a giant LED screen, providing citizens a thorough understanding of the history, rules and etiquette of the Olympic Games.
