China has made efforts to encourage more people to participate in ice and snow events.

Beijing's bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics has offered China a precious chance to promote winter sports and encourage more people to participate in ice and snow events, said the deputy head of the bid committee during a recent interview.

In preparation for the bid, Beijing implemented a string of promotional programs in schools, business districts and parks throughout the city. These events helped make winter sports more popular among the public, said Zhao Yinggang, the deputy secretary-general of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee.

If Beijing wins the bid, China will see significant development in winter sports. More facilities will be built to give the public venues to participate in ice and snow sports, and wide-ranging promotional programs will be held in schools across the country to introduce millions of teenagers to winter sports, Zhao said.

Beijing presented its bid to the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland in early June, vowing to inspire 300 million people to participate in winter events in the country.
