Ma Zhendong became a firefighter at 20, just as he had always dreamed. After having been tempered by tough training and experiences, he was granted the Iron Army Fulfilling Difficult Tasks Certificate and was appointed head of the special services. He did not spend a single day without working strenuously to put out a fire or handle an emergency.

in the wee hours of a winter day in 2013, a dormitory building caught fire, and two people became trapped in the raging inferno. Despite the grave danger, Ma asked to enter the building himself to perform the rescue. Helped by the water cannons of fellow firefighters, he dashed into the sea of fire and finally found the two unconscious victims on a balcony. With the bangs of explosions going off around him, he brought them safely to the ambulance.

At work, Ma faces life-or-death situations all the time. As a man who has a family himself, Ma becomes fearless when he receives a report of people in grave danger. At those moments, all that is on his mind is how to deal with the emergency and save people. To him, defending the country and its people is a soldier’s duty.
