--Story told by Qi Xin

Which people are the most beautiful? In my eyes, the answer is those who come aboard our blood collection vehicles to donate blood. By donating blood, they give patients the hope of survival.

Guo Yanling is a civil servant in the public security service. Now 53 years old, Guo has been donating blood for 15 years, making 22 donations in total for a combined amount of 5400 milliliters, far above the total amount in her body.

Once, the blood bank reported a shortage, and Guo immediately answered the call for donation. She felt dizzy and sweated during the donation, perhaps because she didn’t have time to eat breakfast before rushing to help. We suggested she stop, but she refused, saying her reactions were no big deal. She finished the donation because she believed that an extra 100 milliliters of blood could save another life.

For 15 years, Guo has often said: “My blood can be renewed after donations, but other people’s lives can’t be renewed once they’ve been lost.” I sincerely hope there will be more people like Guo in Beijing.
