Another Chinese candy maker whose brand product was allegedly found to be tainted with formaldehyde by the Philippines said Friday that its milk sweet is safe and sold only in domestic market.

Chen Shifang, general manager of Romanticfish Food Co. Ltd. in Jinjiang city, east China's Fujian Province, told Xinhua the company has maintained strict food safety standards in production and that they felt rather surprised on hearing the news as their company was not authorized to export candy products.

"It is still unclear whether the alleged problematic candy was produced by the company or not," said Chen, adding that the company was cooperating with the Jinjiang City Inspection and Quarantine Bureau to investigate the distribution of the company's products.

A report posted Monday on www. gmanews.tv, a news Website of Philippine GMA television said the country's Bureau of Food and Drug (BFAD) found that two candy brands, the "White Rabbit" and a brand of milk candy made by Romanticfish Food contained formaldehyde "after inspecting over 600 food products that the Philippines imported from China".

Shanghai Guan Sheng Yuan (Group) Company Limited, producer of the "White Rabbit" milk candy, one of the alleged tainted candy brands, has denied that their candy contained the chemical.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine also confirmed on Friday that their tests have failed to trace formaldehyde in the "White Rabbit" candy produced by the company.

Guang Sheng Yuan said fake "White Rabbit" candy products were rampant in recent years both in home and abroad, due to the worldwide influence of the famous brand.
