Motorola Inc set up an innovation center today in Jinqiao, Shanghai.

The center of the world's second largest mobile-phone maker will be home to 500 employees.

It is the 20th anniversary of Motorola's presence in China.

Motorola sold 35.5 million mobile phones in the quarter, down from 51.9 million a year earlier.

Its second-quarter net loss was US$28 million, or one cent a share, compared with a profit of US$1.38 billion, or 55 cents, a year earlier, the company said in an earlier report.
