Chinese shares edge down 0.49% on fall in other markets

Chinese shares closed down 0.49 percent Tuesday, as investors were swayed by fall in surrounding stock markets, dealers said.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed down 13.53 points at 2,776.02. The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 10,768.96 points, up 244.83 points, or 2.33 percent.

Aggregate turnover stood at 167.22 billion yuan (24.59 billion yuan), slightly down from 168.26 billion yuan on Monday.
