Chinese shares close slightly higher

Chinese share prices closed slightly higher on Friday as the Shanghai Composite Index fluctuated strongly for the whole trading day.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.19 percent, or 6 points, to 3,189.74.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.38 percent, or 50.08 points, to 13,131.97.

Total turnover shrank to 283.6 billion yuan (US$41.7 billion) from 332.37 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
