Continuous snow has forced rescuers to suspend their search on Wednesday for two Russian tourists missing in an avalanche in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The two tourists had little chance of survival after being buried for a week on Luotuo Peak (Camel Peak) of the Siguniang Mountain, 5,100 meters above sea level, said rescuers.

The rescue was made impossible as snow had led to more avalanches and ice erosion, said Huang Jizhou, an official with the management bureau of the Siguniang Mountain in Aba Tibet and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture.

The team made the decision after two Russian survivors requested rescuers suspend the search, he said. "Our members are leaving the site."

A Russian team would continue the search for the bodies at the site next January when fewer avalanches were expected as snow would freeze.

"We will cooperate with them closely at the time," Huang said.

Four Russians, three men and a woman, went to the Changpinggou scenic site on the mountain on Oct. 20. A man and woman were buried on Oct. 28 while taking photos on the mountain. The bureau started the rescue after receiving a phone call from the two survivors on Oct. 29.
