China's anti-graft chief He Guoqiang on Sunday urged nationwide grassroot units to strengthen the construction of clean and honest governance with the spirit of reform and innovation to obtain the people's trust and benefit the people.

He, secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a symposium held in Jingdezheng City of east China's Jiangxi Province on Sunday.

"The construction of clean and honest governance should be strengthened in rural areas, enterprises, schools, public institutions and urban communities to address prominent issues," He said.

The construction of clean and honest governance at grassroots has made remarkable progress since the reform and opening-up in late 1970s, but it now faces new conditions and problems that have affected social stability and development in some places, according to He.

In rural areas, the construction should focus on promoting rural reform, development and stability as well as safeguarding the interests of farmers, He said.

At enterprises the emphasis should be put on advancing clean management, according to He.
