Top political advisor urges efforts on economic development, social stability

China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin called on the united front and the people's political consultative conference to play a bigger role in countering the global financial crisis and promoting a harmonious society.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks during his inspection trip to eastern Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces from Nov. 6 to Nov. 10.

Jia said maintaining a steady and relatively fast economic development remained a top task of economic work and efforts should be made to facilitate industrial restructuring and expand export to create new advantages in the global competition.

He also called for a better job in affairs concerning ethnic groups and appropriately handling religious issues to promote a harmonious society.

In addition, Jia urged the Party committee at all levels to enhance their leadership of the united front and the people's political consultative conference to push forward their causes.
