China's State Council appoints senior officials in Macao

The State Council, China's Cabinet, on Monday appointed senior officials in the government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), according to a Tuesday statement.

The appointments were made in accordance with the Basic Law of the Macao SAR and based on nominations by Chui Sai On, the Chief Executive-elect of Macao SAR, said the statement by the State Council.

Florinda da Rosa Silva Chan was appointed Secretary of the Secretariat for Administration and Justice; Tam Pak Yuen was appointed Secretary of the Secretariat for Economy and Finance; Cheong Kuoc Va was appointed Secretary of the Secretariat for Security.

Cheong U was appointed Secretary of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture; Lau Si lo was appointed to the Secretariat for Transport and Public Works; Fong Man Chong was appointed Commissioner Against Corruption; Ho Weng On was appointed Commissioner of Audit.

Jose Proenca Branco was appointed Commissioner General of the Unitary Police Service; Choi Lai Hang was appointed Director General of the Customs Service; Ho Chio Meng was appointed Public Prosecutor-General of the Public Prosecutions Office.

All the officials will take office on Dec. 20, according to the statement.
