Police in south China's Hainan Province said they had caught a man suspected of killing six of his family members in Beijing.

The suspect, Li Lei, was arrested Saturday evening in Sanya, a renowned scenery spot, according to the Sanya Municipal Public Security Bureau. Li will be sent to Beijing under guard Monday.

Li confessed to hacking his parents, two children, wife and sister to death on Nov. 23 in their home in Beijing's Daxing District, and fleeing the capital to Sanya at Saturday morning.

The bodies of the dead, aged two to 54, were found Friday by his wife's younger brother.

"I could have never imagined that he would kill his family," said Li Hanquan, the suspect's uncle, who wailed during a phone interview.

Sanya police said Li told them that the killing was a result of long-time family conflicts.

Li is introvert while his wife was domineering, and his parents treated him toughly when he was young, which made him "want to kill them", Li was quoted as saying by the Beijing Morning.
