A city legislator of east China's Zhejiang Province has been detained for drunk driving that left four people dead and six others injured, local public security authority said Tuesday.

Yang Shuzhong, a deputy of both the county-level and municipal people's congresses in Sanmen County, Taizhou City, was in police custody after he hit eight vehicles with his Black BMW within a range of 193 meters in Sanmen at around 8:12 p.m. Monday, Yang Zhen, publicity officer with the Public Security Bureau of Sanmen, said.

Four people were killed and six others were injured. The injured were not in serious condition, the official said.

Immediate tests showed the legislator, 48, had been drunk driving as his blood alcohol level was 330 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, well above the legal limit of 80 mg.

With approval of the standing committees of people's congresses of Sanmen and Taizhou, Yang Shuzhong was detained on suspicion of threatening public security by dangerous means Tuesday morning.

The suspect is board chairman and general manager of Huali Medical Chemical Co. Ltd. in Sanmen.
