Some 2,100 Hong Kong residents staged two rallies on Sunday for different demands, one for universal suffrage and the other for protection of animal rights.

In the Hong Kong Island, police estimated that some 1,600 people gathered at the Victoria Park and marched towards the seat of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.

In Kowloon, police said around 500 Hong Kong residents rallied and demanded better protection of animal rights in a two-hour march.

On Saturday, about 2,000 workers from Hong Kong's several labor unions joined the Labor Day processions in the city to demand for early passage of minimum wage legislation and improvement of employment in the near term.
