President of Foxconn Terry Gou has denied claims Foxconn is a sweatshop for its factory workers in his first public comments after a string of suicides by the company's employees.

Gou also promised to stabilize the situation at Foxconn in comments made at a forum on economic cooperation between Sichuan province and Taiwan held in Taipei.

In the wake of the suicides, the company's management style has been viewed with suspicion.

Early Tuesday morning, an employee of Foxconn Technology Group died after falling from a building at the company's plant in Shenzhen.

It was the ninth such death and the 11th such fall at the plant this year. Two Foxconn employees were severely injured in failed suicide attempts.

Foxconn is part of Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co and makes computers, game consoles and mobile phones for companies including Hewlett-Packard Co, Sony Corp and Nokia Corp.
