The maritime administrations of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao will jointly launch a search and rescue exercise in the waterway east of Macao International Airport on June 10, according to a statement on the Hong Kong government website Wednesday.

As the sea passenger transport between ports of the Pearl River Delta has remained busy amid the rapid economic development in the region, it is vital for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao to improve search and rescue cooperation, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government said in the statement.

Guangdong Provincial Public Security Bureau, the Unitary Police Service of the Macao SAR, and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center of the Hong Kong SAR will join the exercise.

The Macao Maritime Administration, chief coordinator of the exercise, is responsible for the overall planning and execution, according to the statement.

The exercise will simulate a scenario in which two Hong Kong-Macao high-speed craft collide.
