Taiwan-based Kuomintang party vice chairwoman Huang Ming-hui would attend the weeklong Straits Forum later this month in southeastern Fujian Province at the organizers' invitation, a mainland spokeswoman said Saturday.

Taiwan's New Party chairman Yok Mu-ming, People First Party secretary-general Chin Ching-sheng and Non-Partisan Solidarity Union chairman Lin Pin-kuan would also be present at invitation, said Fan Liqing, spokeswoman of the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, at a regular press conference in Beijing.

Fan also extended welcome to members of Taiwan's opposition Democratic Progressive Party to attend the forum.

The annual forum, designed to promote cross-Straits exchanges on an unofficial platform, was initiated last year in Fujian.

This year the forum's main venue will be located in the coastal city of Xiamen.
