The death toll from a minibus crash in southwest China's Sichuan Province Thursday has risen to 10 after two of the injured died in hospital, said local authorities Friday.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. Thursday when the vehicle carrying 11 people plunged about 300 meters into the Mengzi Canyon in Daocheng County of the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze, said a spokesman with the prefectural information office.

One passenger survived after he jumped out of the vehicle while eight died at the scene. Another passenger and the driver were seriously injured, but died late Thursday at Daocheng County People's Hospital, said the spokesman.

The dead passengers were identified as employees with the Longcheng Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., based in Sichuan's Zigong City. They were heading to a road construction site in Mengzi Township when the accident occurred, he said.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
