The rising use of addictive drugs has become one of the biggest social problems threatening various countries. To create awareness about the damaging effects of illicit drugs on individuals, families and the community at large, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) celebrates 'The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' every year on June 26.

The goal of the campaign is to mobilize support and to inspire people to act against drug abuse. The campaign encourages young people to put their health first and not to take drugs.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) selects themes for the International Day and launches campaigns to raise awareness about the global drug problem.

2010 - Health is the ongoing theme of the world drug campaign.

2007-2009 - "Do drugs control your life? Your life. Your community. No place for drugs."

2006 - "Value yourself...make healthy choices"
