The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert on Tuesday on a fraudulent website with the domain name "www.hkboc.net", which looks similar to the official website of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited (BOCHK).

BOCHK said in a statement on Tuesday that it is not related in any way, directly or indirectly, to the website. The website has adopted the layout and contents of BOCHK website and also claimed holding shares in BOCHK's subsidiaries, Nanyang Commercial Bank Limited and Chiyu Banking Corporation Limited, which is not true.

The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation.

BOCHK reminded that customers should not access their e-banking accounts through hyperlinks embedded in emails sent to them from any unknown source. It is always prudent to type in their web address into the browser address bar to ensure the security of their personal information.
